📢  Industry news

Update: DHL resumes all parcel shipments to the USA

In our last newsletter, we reported on the suspension of US parcel shipments after the elimination of the duty-free threshold. Now there’s an update: DHL has resumed shipping goods for business customers. After a four-week break, standard parcels can once again be sent to the USA as of September 25. However, all shipments are now subject to customs duties – even those under $800. On top of that, there is a surcharge of €2 per parcel for processing via the “Postal Delivered Duty Paid” service. Shippers must also provide all customs data in advance.

Amazon UK to close Fresh Stores

Amazon is closing all 20 of its Amazon Fresh stores in London, marking its withdrawal from the brick-and-mortar grocery business in the UK. The “Just Walk Out” technology concept failed to gain traction due to high costs, low customer traffic, and strong competition from established supermarkets. Instead, Amazon is focusing its efforts on online grocery retail: expanding Amazon Fresh Online, partnering with supermarket chains such as Morrisons and Coop, and investing in its own logistics to drive further growth in e-grocery.

Shopopop × Carrefour: Crowd-Shipping for the Last Mile

The French crowdshipping provider Shopopop is significantly expanding its partnership with Carrefour: More than 1,000 stores across Europe will begin using crowd-shipping to deliver orders directly from local outlets. Private drivers handle the deliveries, covering urban areas but especially suburban and rural regions. The model is designed to give Carrefour more flexible logistics, broader geographical coverage, and potentially lower delivery costs. Currently, around 15 new locations are being added each month.
